We recommend purchasing the FireBoard® Thermometer product to get you up and running. The product includes a charging block with backup power, charging cable, ambient probe & 2 food probes.
In 2019, we purchased the initial FireBoard® system (older model) and connected the food probes to the copper pipes in our basement by taping them with electrical tape. We have a Central Boiler Analog gauge and the temperature difference was 15 degrees. Thankfully, in the FireBoard® mobile app, you’re able to configure a temperature offset for each probe, that way you can more accurately measure your outdoor wood boiler temperatures.
In 2021, we purchased 4 smoker probes 1/2″ NPT (thermistor), that way the probes give more accurate readings as they’re threaded into our plumbing system right at the heat exchanger. We monitor the supply/return on the pressure house side, as well as the supply/return on the non-pressurized outdoor boiler side. It’s quite amazing that the readout in the app (i.e. 177.6 degrees fahrenheit) is the same readout on my Central Boiler, and analog gauge. I did not set a temperature offset as it’s quite accurate!
